GSCI Camps Get Much Needed Improvements

Hello wonderful girls, women, and men of GSCI!  It has been an exciting fall at all of our GSCI camps as we have completed some much-needed capital improvements.

The roof on the lodge at Camp Peairs was over 25-years old and we replaced the shingles, flashed the chimneys, and replaced damaged sheeting.

At Camp Widjiwagan, contractors have been busy installing new windows in the heated areas of the lodge for increased energy efficiency. We also made some repairs on the pool to stop a slow leak, restored the underwater lights, and began the second of three phases of replacing the wood siding on Buccaneer. It looks beautiful!

New upper windows in Main Lodge at Camp Kiwanis were installed to create a warmer sleeping area and the foundation of the maintenance shed was reinforced.

Numerous projects have also been completed or are underway at Camp Tapawingo. An expansion of the well house is in progress to house a new pressure tank and water filtration system. This project is the beginning of our work toward cleaning up our water supply.  We seeded and fertilized the fields with new pasture and hay mix to feed the Tapawingo horse herd, replaced the crumbling shingles at Big Sky and the maintenance shop, ran water and electricity to the west horse pasture, and stockpiled gravel to fill potholes in the road. The most exciting project at Tapawingo, however, is the groundbreaking on the new equestrian stables. Morton Contractors will begin work next week on the 20-stall structure complete with two classrooms, a trading post area, and plenty of space for girls and the community to learn about horses year-round. We will be posting photos on this blog to show progress of the stables so check back often.

We hope to see you soon at one of our beautiful camps!
